I agree with the points posters made before. I think if you believe in God then you believe He knows your innermost beliefs. I know when you're sick everything looks so black and ugly and it can be impossible to muster any spiritual thoughts or feelings. A long time ago i had an extreme crisis when I realized that the obsessive thoughts in my head didn't switch off even when i tried to pray. I felt that surely God wasn't with me if I couldn't even pray without hearing these bad things.

But one of the most comforting things that I learned is the idea that God is with us all the time - not just when we pray or even when we believe. He's with us even when we don't believe, even when we curse at him and say "This isn't fair" or "why should I have to go through this. I don't think you care about me." I didn't go to church for more than 12 years, yet as I look back more and more i can see His hand guiding me and protecting and comforting me through all those dark years. So even if you can't muster any active spiritual thoughts and emotions, maybe the thought that God is with you, regardless of what happens in your brain, might be enough. I think that He knows whether you believe in him or not, and he also knows whether you try to be a good person or not, even if you think you're not.

Also if you're a Christian then you will know that when Jesus was on earth he didn't go visiting the rulers or priests or the rich and powerful or even just people who were very happy and content and good and righteous. He spent most of his time with the poor and humble, the sick and downtrodden, the sinners and the poor in spirit. He didn't come for the highest, he came to save the lowest. So even if you're sick and need to do certain things to survive remember Jesus came most of all for you.

I don't now how long we must go through this, but just try to take one day at a time. If you try and account for all the days in your past or look forward to what the future holds, you'll go (more) crazy. Every day you wake just take a load off and switch on autopilot and say "Look whatever happens to me today I know that God is there and I trust him and believe in him and his love for me to do whatever is right for me."
