Most of my life I wasn't aware any Protestant Christian denominations marked the beginning of Lent with any sort of liturgy, etc. In younger years, I thought only Catholics did anything like this, especially including receiving ashes on their foreheads. I think in some way I envied that, too. I wasn't brought up with it, but the past three years I have been exposed to it in my current nondenominational Protestant church (multi-denominational may be more accurate)
Tonight, we read Psalm 51: 1-17 aloud together during our service. I found it so meaningful, profound even. The ebb and flow of the Christian holy days throughout the year is becoming more important and comforting to me. The period culminating in Easter is really emotional and feels more personal to me each passing year.
