My tribute to Pope John Paul

Posted by rayww on April 5, 2005, at 15:08:08

I watched the interview last night of the beautiful (9 months pregnant) woman, who was the baby that saved the Pope from the bullet that might have taken his life some years ago. Look at the symbolism.

I was especially impressed with the interview last night on Larry King with the Pope's personal conductor. Wow! It was awesome that the Pope would do so much to bridge the gap between the Catholics and Jews.

This seems to be a time for Christians and Jews to come together. I truly believe one of the reasons the Pope's life was spared was for this purpose, and to reinforce traditional Jewish and Christian values. He has done a lot of good for the world since his nearly fatal shooting.

This morning I heard another show, in fact it is on right now, http://byubroadcasting.org/newtestament/episode132.asp) talking about how we should never have blamed the Jews as a nation for killing Jesus. In fact, they say, wherever "Jews" is mentioned, we should change it to "some Jewish leaders", becasue it wasn't all Jews that rejected Jesus. We should remember that Jesus, Mary, Peter, the apostles and the believers were all Jews. People of my faith believe The time will come for all prophecy to be fulfilled, and that Christ had to give his life somehow, that it was part of the plan from the very beginning, that there is a plan for salvation for the whole human family.

When the time is right, and it soon will be, Jesus will come in his glory to the Jews and then and only then will they as a nation accept him. Until that day, we are to love everyone, bridge gaps between nations, beliefs, cultures and people, and we should follow the example of great leaders. If in our hearts we adhere to the values taught by Pope John Paul II, we should cling to those values. I am not Catholic, but I have really appreciated his unwavering leadership in that area.

It would be nice to see a tribute page to the Pope from people of all walks of life and religions.
