I won't do the topic any justice but it has something to do with one tracking lunar time and one tracking solar time. Our Jurisdiction, the Malankara Syrian, were on the old calendar until a couple of years ago. I have no idea why we switched. But 95% of the world's Orthodox are on the old calendar.
