No, I can't explain it really. But I want to make sure it's understood that it isn't a universal Christian concept. Most Protestant churches don't believe in transubstantiation, or that they are literally drinking the blood or eating the body of Christ.
Many Christian Churches believe that you eat the bread and drink the wine in remembrance of the body and blood of Christ, which they believe was offered as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. Also eating the bread and drinking the wine serves as a form of communion with the rest of Christianity and with God.
It's actually a hard concept for me to grasp.
