If I interpret your question to be,Do you have to be depressed to follow God? , then the answer to your question is NO!
Depression is never intended for those that are disciples. For the Anointed One said, I came to give you life, and life more abundantly." Also, He said, "In the world you will have tribulation, but in Me you will have peace."
Therfore, depression is not part of accepting God in your life. But many disciples become depressed to the point that they ask for death.
So that is the time to examine your situation.
