In reply to anyone have had good parents and no self esteem?, posted by Happyflower on June 3, 2008, at 13:28:47
I was just being sarcastic. I think it is so much more involved than good or bad parenting.
Bad parents that demonstrate good self esteem could be imitated by the child for example. Parenting does to always involve just the mother and father. If others are around to do some of the good stuff needed than the parenting that creates good self esteem might prevail. For instance my brother had friends whose parents became kind of surrogate parents to him. He sought them out and they responded. He still feels a great debt to them and I am jealous.
Of course genetic predisposition plays its part I would think.
