Hi Kk,
I know that it may seem like you and me are having our own private conversation (butt in anyone- PLEASE!!!)I did this guided relaxation thing with my therapist about 2 mos before I terminated. I think I posted about it somewhere, but I'm too lazy to go look it up. I still remember what it was about.
Basically, she took me through a whole body relaxation (imagine I'm on a beach, the warm water, nice breeze, etc. feel the waves on your toes and they relax, then ankles, the calves, and then I'm floating in the gentle waves of this tropical island-- not bad for a T session!).
Then she had me imagine a little girl, my little girl inside, and helped me get an image of her. I still have an image of her. What I imagine my kid would look like if I ever get around to having one. She was very sweet and cute and had big brown eyes and kind of a shy, playful demeanor.
T helped me imagine that she was my kid, and I needed to take care of her, by feeding her a nutritious breakfast (always my best meal of the day, btw) so that she could go romp and frolic. then she comes back from doing whatever kids do on a tropical island and she wanted a nice lunch, with soup, or a fresh salad and a hearty sandwich, and then she'd take her bucket and build sandcastles with rivers and a moat and try to climb the coconut trees like a monkey, all while I was floating on the beach.
Came back and I had a little snack for her. A treat of something sweet with a glass of milk. Then by the time the sun was setting, I prepared her a lovely meal with comforting food- macaroni and cheese, a steamed vegetable. Turkey burger, pudding for dessert...
Before bedtime, that's when she needs another snack, because it's going to be so many hours before she can eat again. Maybe some fresh popcorn, or a cookie and a glass of milk. Maybe some cheese on a cracker, or the leftover macaroni. Just something in her little girl tummy to help her last through the night so that she could have more energy the next morning.
Does this sound helpful to you? Maybe you can journal out your own script and repeat it to yourself. Remember that you might not get everything right the first day. Eating takes practice, and you're out of practice! try taking in some solid food when you're drinking your old lady drinks. Some real half and half with your coffee? I know you eat clif bars? cut them in pieces and eat a chunk every hour when ducky starts getting fussy for a snack himself.
And don't EVER doubt that you're a good mommy- you are that and SO much more :)
take good care,
-Ll
