I used to take laxatives as a way to “lose weight” too but stopped b/c I realized the harm I was doing to my body. I was taking the stimulant laxatives which are considered pretty potent thinking that this would help me get rid of the fat and calories I was consuming. This thinking is way off base though b/c what I was really getting rid of was mainly water and important electrolytes that the body needs to function (like potassium, sodium, nutrients). After taking laxatives I’d feel tired, depressed, and my stomach would be more distended than before! Also, my body became dependent on the laxatives and it was hard for me to go to the bathroom w/out taking something so I ended up constipated!
Vines, I know it can be difficult to quit using the laxatives cold turkey but you really need to think about what this is doing to your physical health (as well as emotional health). Are you able to talk to someone about this dependency?
My thoughts are with you!
