Trichotillomania--Need help for teen daughter!!!!!

Posted by Mogdragon on August 28, 2000, at 10:48:16

I am interested in information regarding Trichotillomania.

My daughter has been pulling her hair since she was 2 years old. She is now 13 and continues to pull her hair in varying degrees.

I have read much information on the net about this disease, but most of it doesn't apply to my daughter. With her, she mainly pulls her hair at night, when she is asleep. She will pull in spurts. Her hair will grow out some and then one morning she will wake up and have a spot that is nearly bald. She doesn't realize that she is doing it since she is asleep.

What I have thus far read deals with behavior modification and drug therapy. I guess that my question is, How do you do behavior modification for something that you are not aware that you are doing?? What kind of help can we expect to get with a situation like this??

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
