Well, I wouldn't say that Big Pharma is taking over supplements, but with l-methylfolate they managed to reclass it as a medical food and make it script only, and jack the price in the process. Merck owns the patent to Metafolin, which is still sold as an OTC supplement, but I think it is going to be script only soon also. It's pricey to try to recreate the Deplin dosage with Metafolin, and I didn't even get close to 7.5, let alone 15 mg, which is supposedly superior for a lot of people.
