I have more than 10 mercury amalgam fillings. I can't find any concrete evidence via studies that they are bad, but since Mercury is so toxic is would seem a reasonable assumption. Also according to sources such as the FDA they refuse to state that Mercury Amalgams are safe. Perhaps this sentence sums things up >
"As of 2008, the use of dental amalgam has been banned in Norway[35], restricted in Sweden and Finland, and a committee of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has refused to ratify assertions of safety."

I wish I could get rid of them but it's just so expensive to do so in the UK.
