Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble form of vitamin B1(thiamine). For some reason, I need extra B1 for my depression. The Source Naturals brand is the only one that helps with my depression. It comes in a 150mg tablet, and it's a little pricey, about $30 per bottle. It is mainly used for diabetic neuropathy, but I find it helps when I take it with other supplements. I've tried other brands of benfotiamine, but they don't seem to produce the same effect as the Source Naturals brand. Further, I have to take other supplements with it, including B6, vitamin E, zinc, fish oil, borage oil, and vitamin C. This combination seems to help support mood and depression. I first had to become stabilized on medication, which consists of an antidepressant, mood stabilizer, and an antipsychotic because I was hearing voices in my head. The vitamins are helpful, but they don't do a damn thing for psychotic symptoms, however. I rely on medication for that, which is very important for bipolar depression and schizophrenia.
