MELATONINE: Dosage and Timeing for Insomnia.

Posted by eve70 on July 7, 2005, at 8:41:28

Hi,
Few days ago i decided to try Melatonine for Insomnia, that i usually try to counteract using Benzo at low dosage.
I start at 3 mg standard pill dosage as i was in bed. I fall asleep within 30 min and passed a good night.
But the day after i was very groggy and somnolenced till the evening.
The evening after i cut pill into 8 and took a single part (about 0,4 mg) but, once again i was somnolenced and drowsy all day after (but less than the day before).
Probably i am wronging the dosage or the time of assumption in relation to my own body production of melatonine?
Read somewere that the dosage that mimic the normal body level of the Hormon could be less that 0,2 mg or even less.
Read, also, that xxlow dosage taken at beginning of the evening lead to a normalization of sleep cycle without side effect.
Could you please report your experience or counseils for using melatonine in insomnia?
In particular any info to find out dosage and timeing that reduce groggy effect the day after?
Thank you very much for you help!

Eve
