> hi all, i have an appointment with my pychopharmacologist this week, and we only meet every 2-3 months, so any advice would be invaluable. i'm taking prozac for ocd, and after 3 years it has had the usual side-effects of most ssri's i've tryed, apathy, energy-zap, and more than a little sexual dysfunction. i just began taking nadh 2 month's ago, and at 5 mgs. every other day, i seem to be getting a stimulating effect, and also a pro-sexual, [whoo hoo] jolt i didn't expect. does nadh have the same dopamine and a.d, effects as wellbutrin, and is it safe in the long run for an ocd patient like myself.

NADH enhances the efficiency of tyrosine hydroxylase (yielding L-DOPA) by up to six times (in lab cultures). So, it enhances production, and indirectly, release of dopamine. Wellbutrin inhibits synaptic reuptake. Two different mechanisms altogether.

NADH is also an essential component in mitochondrial electron transport, and thereby enhances ATP production (general cell energy). So, fatigue or apathy might be ameliorated by this route, as well.

The effects you describe could certainly be antidepressant, all by themselves, eh?

In my experience, there is a possibility that irritability might gradually appear with NADH. I suspect that is due to some cumulative biochemical stress. I'd just make sure I had a decent supply of other B-vitamins (supplement) and vitamin C (supplement). Also, TMG (trimethylglycine, also known as betaine) seems to be a good combination with the NADH. 250 mg might be a good dose, each time you take the NADH.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
