Major differences.

Homeopathy is a wellness through self-healing paradigm, with a lot of focus on illness prevention, rather than treatment per se. Treatments use the "like treats like" concept, such that if a fever occurs, a miniscule dose of a pyretic is given.

A naturopath can be, but usually isn't, a medical doctor who focusses on a holistic treatment approach. They also focus on individual abilities for finding wellness, but the focus is on finding the underlying disturbance that finally surfaces as physical symptoms. Unlike our traditional medicine (allopathy, the treatment of symptoms), naturopathy places physical symptoms as least important. Then, underlying are the emotional symptoms. Beneath them, the mental sympoms. And finally, below that, the vulnerability or causitive weakness in the individual. Drugs are usually given only briefly, and only for acute symptoms. Therapies tend to be natural, and are targeted towards holistic balancing.

In my not so humble and biased opinion, naturopathy is less likely to be quackery. Homeopathy is , umm, not very well supported by science.

The best route to a naturopath is a referral from someone whose judgment you trust, but you should look for credentials from one of these schools. I have a partiality to Bastyr graduates, as a friend of mine is one.

Look for N.D. degrees from: Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona, Bastyr College in Oregon, and National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Washington.

Go with your gut, and look for credentials.
