I am not really sure that there is anything that he could take to help him quit. As far as withdrawals, honestly I don't think he will have them. Myself and a family memeber are both daily smokers and have been for over 10 years (him 20+ years).
We both have to quit periodically and neither one of us really has trouble with it and we don't have withdrawals from it. The only thing is maybe craving it a little or a little harder to fall asleep for the first days, but other than that it isn't physically addictive for the most part IMO like cigarettes are.
I personally wouldn't take an antidepressant like an SSRI just to try to quit smoking pot, but that is just me and I would just quit cold turkey (I know it is a little difficult, but it really isn't that hard). I know Wellbutrin is used for quitting smoking, so maybe that might be something to look into if you really think he needs it. Best of luck
