once upon a time...

Posted by alexandra_k on April 12, 2021, at 3:36:14

I was a teengage in Te Awamutu. I went to Auckland to visit someone... I caught the train back. It passed through Hamilton.

There are freight lines down the country. From Auckland. Through South Auckland. Through Huntley. Through Ngaruawahia. Through Hamilton. All the freaking way down to Wellington (bottom of the North Island).

But at some point they stopped passanger service from Auckland to Hamilton.

To drive up the rental property maket in Auckland I suppose.

It would be like... Stopping train service for passengers..... From NJ into NY. Or from RI into Boston.

To drive up the property prices in NY or Boston.

Our present government has made a big deal of re-instituting train service from South Auckland (where the Pacific Island Community resides -- think impoverished) to Hamilton.

It takes longer than teh car -- but they bet on commute times in stopped traffic to make it feel worthwhile.

In other words, the governmetn decided to give back something they previously stole from the people to try and increase... hopefulness.

not working.
