I'd say it is common sense for any website where you can enter and look at content without a password, but it's **always** been in the FAQ. Explicitly:

True, but maybe don't worry about it so much? Anyone who relied too much - or at all - on old message board posts to actually decide whether or not to hire someone, or whatever, may be someone you don't want to work for anyway....

Nope. You have your buttons turned off, making it far less convenient for others to create a link.

Hmmm, how are those two things connected, rj? Google is a tool. People can find what they want with it, but our messages aren't really going anywhere....

I'm so thankful I could find posts by people who felt exactly like I did - using Google - back in 2004. This site being accessible certainly helped save me from a lot of extra suffering, brought me friends, and more.
