Definitely. The British tend to have a different sense of humour to Americans. The British are far more self-deprecating, we laugh at ourselves more... more cynical.

I wouldn't have said they're generally more serious, but they don't make jokes about disaster. The Brits make more jokes about death, a dark sense of humour.
