Civility Question

Posted by ron1953 on November 4, 2010, at 13:30:56

This is directed toward those who agree with the rules regarding "cuss" words. Many have stated that it applies in their personal life, as well. Here in Babble they are considered uncivil in any context, and would be quickly addressed with a PBC or block, which kind of short-circuits the discussion, often causing it to segue in another direction (usually about rules and blocks), and totally abandoning the original topic.

My question is: In real life, when you're having a conversation and the other person happens to use (not as an attack) a word that's on your no-no list, does the mere utterance of the word immediately change the direction and tone of the discussion?
