To clarify, we definitely *cannot* read anyone's Babblemails, not unless a poster deliberately forwards them to us using the Notification function, which is/should only be because there is a concern with civility, etc. We really have no desire to get involved with anyone's personal, private conversations unless absolutely necessary.
And even then, I don't recall deputies getting involved in actions regarding Babblemails violating guidelines in the past. I think we've called on Dr. Bob to determine how to proceed, as it's not quite as straightforward as when we do things based on public posts. I don't mean the civility standards aren't the same, I just mean the mechanism isn't really in place, to let someone know that they were warned, and/or why, when the problem happened behind the scenes, etc. To me, it's much more awkward and I am unsure as to how to proceed at times - to make deputy actions involving off-board behaviors clear and understandable, yet still protect everyone's privacy while doing so. In fact, the more I think, the more I recall I've never done it, although the others deputies may have.
Phillipa, I think fayeroe was asking you what other posters could do if they don't "know what a poster writes" - before opening that person's posts, because you said, "and if you don't like it, don't read it." Oftentimes, subject lines really don't give you much idea what might be in the post itself.
But I'll bet she will post to clear that up if I am mistaken.
