Three suggestions

Posted by MissK on February 27, 2008, at 18:42:42

I took a good look around and read a lot of the information available here on and about PsychoBabble today, its aims, objectives and how it is run.

My three suggestions for improvement would be:

1- Books and Articles links different examples of just how members posts are used in these.

Unless I missed something, I saw how you (Dr. Bob) use these in your articles, but not how others may use(d) the information, that you know of. It would be interesting, I think, to see different examples of how this information is used, whether in total (as in articles) or extracts (as in books).

2 Statistics on the List of Boards add the creation dates and, if (or when) applicable, the closed date of each Discussion Board.

It was interesting to see what is tabulated and what information of the membership and board activity is presented.

This suggestion would be, I think, useful and educational for both statistics and books/articles.

As I read the articles and statistics, I wondered just what Boards were actually in existence at the time of the article or statistic. I think adding or listing the creation/closed dates would provide useful and added insight and context to these records and documentations.

I dont know though if a record was though, so it may not even be possible if it doesnt exist.

3- The Thanks for linking PsychoBabble list better discernment of who and what organizations are named and linked.

Because I respect and/or at least accept your credentials (Dr.Bob) and/or the stated aims and objectives of the site as being one of education and support, I think better discernment of who and what organization is publicly thanked by you/PsychoBabble as a forum may be something to think about.

I opened all the named links and skimmed the front page of the sites and any categories available from the opening page and, even with a broad brush mind on the concepts of mental health, health and well-being and education and support, I found it hard to understand why any of the following were named and linked as they did not seem, to me, to have anything at all to do with these. You may have your own reasons of why they are there. Of course, you cannot control who may link to PsychoBabble on their website, but you can control who and what organization is thanked and named and linked and why.

Those sites are:

AccessAdlenet
Banana
Bob Cormia
Bookmarks Scuola
Busby CUSM Friends (--this one I find particularly unsettling not only does the site seem to have nothing to do with mental health, etc., it is the only one with the honour of having a picture of who knows who greeting you right there on the list)
DrRecommend
Express Page
Forerest Ministries
Halfbakery
Internet Chemical Resources
Joe Bob Zen
Georgia College State University (links to the admissions page)
Lima Associates
MacBuner Herbal Products
Peter McCarthy
Ron and Maria Hestand
RxFiles
Suleyman Sadi Seferoglu
ScrabbleFAQ
Steve George Bookmarks

FWIW, I would say about 2/3 of the sites listed either no longer have an active link or open to an error page. I compiled a list and will send it to you.
