Clarification of civility guidelines. Please read.

Posted by Dinah on April 26, 2007, at 17:51:09

If you have any comments about admin policies, they may be stated with civility in terms of *ideas* on the Admin board. If you have a desire to change site policy, please state them in terms of *ideas* in ways that will not lead others to feel accused or put down.

If you have an objection to a block, or the length of a block, it is civil to say "I disagree with the length of this block" or "I do not think this merited a block" or "I think that perhaps there was another way to read this statement." Those are all civil. Any assumptions you might make about the unfairness, bias, unkindness, class, etc. of deputies should not be posted, any more than any negative statements should be posted about any poster.

Negative comments about individual deputies, deputies as a group, posters who support deputies, posters who oppose deputies, unfairness, the need to impeach deputies or for deputies to step down, unkindness, personal qualities, genetic predilections, etc. should not be posted on any of the boards.

If you have a problem with any particular post or poster, you may use the report this post button. If you have a problem with any particular deputies, or deputies as a group, you may email Dr. Bob directly. Using the report this post button is not an option for reporting the actions of deputies, since it may lead them to feel accused or put down.

Harassment is considered a violation of site policy, whether or not a PDNP is in effect.

See the FAQ on the topic.

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

Sub uncivil comments, when taken as a whole, may be considered harassment and harassment will be enforced as per site guidelines.

If you feel you have been harassed, please use the report this post button, as per site guidelines. If you feel you have been harassed by a deputy, please contact Dr. Bob by email. See above.

Endorsing a statement that has been deemed uncivil, even if not repeating it, is more or less equivilant to repeating it. If you wish to support a blocked poster within the civility guidelines, you are encouraged to do so. If you wish to agree with the portion of a blocked poster's comments that was not uncivil, please be explicit in what you are agreeing with. If you wish to restate a blocked posters statement in such a way that it is not in violation of the civility guidelines, you may of course agree with it.

Since Dr. Bob is gone, it will be assumed that all new posters who appear to have familiarity with the administration of the site or with individual posters have posted before, and notification of a new posting name on Admin should have been given. I hope that Dr. Bob will come up with a better system soon, and I will strongly urge that he does.

Other situations regarding clarification may come up, so please look for updates on this thread.

If you have any suggestions about any of these policies, as opposed to myself in posting them, they may be made as long as they are in keeping with site guidelines, as described above.

Dr. Bob might wish to correct some of my statements. It's his site, he's free to do so.

This is a very difficult situation, and not what any of the deputies envisioned, I'm sure. Please bear with us during this difficult time.

Dinah, acting as deputy to Dr. Bob
