While I agree that Larry has made wonderful and numerous contributions to the boards, and it's lovely about his new love, I don't see how either have anything to do with this administrative action. Larry's block has nothing to do with Larry as a person nor does it negate the sum total of his participation here. It's about specific behaviors and rules. Two warnings and a please rephrase were issued before the block. Whether someone likes or agrees with the rules is not relevant to deciding if they've been followed or not.
I think it's great to support Larry, and of course people have feelings about his block. I'd love to see the issues separated out when discussing them, though. There's the issue of Larry as a person and his contributions. There's the nature of this block and the behavior related to it. And there's the issue about the rules.
When these all get jumbled up together, I find it hard to understand exactly what someone is saying. Is it that Larry shouldn't be blocked because he's a great guy? Is it that Larry shouldn't be blocked because he did or didn't do something? Is it that the rule itself shouldn't apply for whatever reason? Is it the emotions of others about the block?
