The blocks still get doubled or tripled, but now the time in-between blocks is used to reduce the block before doubling or tripling.

Here is a recent example:

Dr. Bob wrote:

If we take 4 weeks, divide by 10, and round down, that's a reduction of 0 weeks. If we apply that to your previous block, that's 2 - 0 = 2 weeks. And if we double that, that's 4 weeks.

----------------------------------------
My previous block was 4 weeks about 19 weeks ago. If I were blocked today, Dr. Bob would divide 19 by 10 to give 1.9.

Dr. Bob, would you round the 1.9 up or down? Please be nice and follow the rules of rounding.

If he rounds it to 2 he'll take the 4 weeks and subtract 2 to give 2. Then he would double 2 to give 4 weeks for my block. If it were particularly uncivil, he might triple it to give 6 weeks.

After 40 weeks, I would definitely have a clean slate.

In the past, there was no way to reduce the block, no matter how much time passed between blocks. That left me pretty hopeless about my future here on Babble. For example, if I made a mistake in 5 years, my block would be doubled to 8 weeks.

Now, I'm rewarded for being civil for long periods of time. It makes Babble feel much safer, to know that if I make in mistake in 5 years, I would only have a block of 1 week.
