what is unfortunate about boundary enlargement

Posted by special_k on April 15, 2006, at 19:51:31

IMO

is that if you extend your boundaries to include your personal possessions (your house, your car etc)

then should something happen to your material possessions... you will be harder hit than most.

and also the point that in the pursuit of material possessions for a sense of self worth / self esteem how many die tick tick tick

sometimes it seems to be appropriate to enlarge ones boundaries. when you have a dependent child in your care it can help you make sure their needs are met, it can make you more sensitive to their feelings so as to care for them. but inanimate objects?????

what can be unfortunate about taking ideology / policy / political parties into ones boundaries is that... it tends to lead to division.

like has happened.

i think it is interesting that liberals are often characterised as 'wooly headed'. is that just mud slinging or is their something to that? declan has got me thinking on that... with a policy like 'getting rid of terrorism' i can see how some people conclude liberal policy if fairly 'wooly headed'.

sigh.

and sure there was probably a more civil way to have phrased what he wanted to say in hindsight (but then there always is, eh?)

but people would rather jump on him than try and get to what he was trying to say.

and i feel sad in response to that.

so what i have been thinking about is how much people have an unfortunate tendancy to do that (unfortunate because it seems to lead to them getting wound up about that / them seeming to think that a two week banishment is appropriate) and how much that tendancy (which might be there initially...) is fostered on this board...

and i'm wondering whether fostering that tendency is doing people a favour...

or whether it is likely to lead to more pain. more offense as when one picks up the newspaper or watches the news or turns to the world in some other way. but then... maybe people only really listen to those who agree with / support them.

a board for the liberals and a board for the conservatives then?

sigh.

IMHO the politics board...

does more harm than good.
