Larry, I agree about the quicksand. I'm usually doing a swampcrawl (cross between a sidestroke and a mudskipper flop) for firmer ground, while at the same time, gymnastically keeping one foot in my mouth.

The value of Babble is a juggling act for me. I have to balance getting help and helping others without hurting myself in the process. At times, I don't think it's helping me, at others, I'm hanging around trying to help others. But I need to leave when it starts doing more harm than good.

In the end, I have difficulty translating any support I receive in the cyberworld to the real world. This may be a defect on my part. I don't feel the warmth and companionship others seem to derive from online relationships.

I'm baffled by all the expressions of undying love and affection between people who've never met. As isolated as I am in real life, I should welcome any sort of social interaction yet I often disconnect from the internet feeling empty and unfulfilled. Although I do appreciate the help I've received.

I guess I've rambled off on a few goat trails one usually finds near a pit of quicksand - tracks left by animals doing the we-aren't-in-the-tarpit-or-fossil-record celebratory dance.

Rule One should be to take care of ourselves so we are better able to help others. (rule 2)
