Any mystery one attributes to this man is purely one's own attribution, in my opinion. And I dare say he loves your thinking of him this way. (He certainly does nothing to discourage this mystique, and everything to further it.) In my opinion, he's transparent as glass.
I don't, however, discount the possibility that for some people this bobbly persona may be in some way therapeutic, but it seems to me that the recepient needs to do a heck of a lot of hard work to figure out how to make healthy use of this therapy.
That said, for me authenticity, honesty, and clarity---being as clear and as straightforward
as you can possibly be, being as open, simple, and egoless as you are capable of being---these are the marks of a truly therapeutic human. Leave the "mystery" and complexity to artists, who serve a different, and possibly more important, function in our lives. I think it's terribly important for people in bob's position to be clear about what role they want to play, and whose needs are being served.
