This post is really just about terminology
I think its very important to be clear on the difference between actual actions and words on their own.
Words can be hurtful and upsetting, of course. And many of us are sometimes particularly vulnerable to anything distressing. But that is completely unlike actual 'suicide by cop' or suicide bombers.
This site cannot be used for 'acts of terrorism' in their true sense,and I think its important to keep to that meaning. The Boards are limited to exchanging words, and cannot cause my laptop to blow up (for example).
Why do I care so much? Becuase it is such a serious topic, I suppose.
I have been fortunate not to have direct personal experience of terrorism. I have heard 2 bombs going off (actually 3, but I didnt know the first time what the noise was), felt the blast wave, and seen the aftermath of a bomb. Fortunately, only one person was killed in that, although a vast amount of damage happened to property.
And in addition to the totally appalling events on 9/11, we all see regular reports of terrorists causing death and destruction in various countries. And its been going on a very long time (forever?). Guy Fawkes, anyone?
Extra clarity on 'fundamentalism':
Many people hold strong religous views (Christian, Muslim or anything else), but that does not mean that they personally intend violence, and certainly their faiths do not support it. Fundamentalist are sadly present in both Christian and Muslim communities. (I dont know if any other faithes have fundamentalists..) Often its a mixture of religious and politic views, too.
