It seems to me that sometimes people receive civility warnings / requests to rephrase without understanding what is considered objectionable. This may result in people thinking that the rules are somehow 'arbitrary' or a matter of personal whim.
Perhaps preventative measures could be taken by adding a brief phrase to highlight the problem. People could use this to come to better understand the rules and they may seem less arbitrary as a consequence. This may also prevent some of the threads where a situation escalates due to a misunderstanding / miscommunication.
It may take a bit more time, but I think it may be a useful preventative step that can help foster a positive VLG atmosphere.
