Dear Lou,
It is not necessary for you to leave the board for the sake of the board. The debate regarding posting limits will continue despite your absence. Your leaving will serve no useful purpose to the health of the community. As has been so eloquently indicated by others, it can only be diminished.
I doubt that there is anything I can say to change you mind. You already know that I hold you in high regard. I am probably most responsible for the change in policy here, and I am sorry that I may have caused you any injury. That was not my intention. It is true that your posting behavior demonstrated to me a need for setting limits. However, at that point, the issue was no longer about you personally. In my opinion, it was about the dynamics of interaction and the readability of the board. It was about the protection of the community from vandalism. I feel that any further debate should focus on these issues rather than the events that led up to their recognition.
I hope you reconsider your intentions of leaving the community if they are based solely on your beliefs that it would be in its best interests. It wouldn’t. If you feel that it would be in your best interests, I would hope that it be only a temporary absence. In the meantime, it will be our loss.
Peace be with you.
- Scott
