Then the next msg in the thread opens in another new window & on & on until I spend half the time between reading closing the 15 extra windows that have appeared. There must be a setting somewhere but Ive looked everywhere & am at my wits end!

There are two ways you can open the next message in a thread. If you read the first message in a thread, and decide to read the next one, you can hig the back button to return to the main board, and select the next message. That brings you back to the same window the last posting was in, but with the new message opened. If, instead, you scroll down below a message you're reading, and select the next one in the thread from there (rather than from the main board), you're going to open a new window. I hope that clears it up for you.
