Thanks, and a suggestion » Dr. Bob

Thanks, Dr Bob. I hope Dr Hollon may be the first of a series of guest experts who will answer our questions on the Psychological board.

This is from your announcement at the top of http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/ :

"I'm pleased to announce that Dr. Hollon, Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University, has agreed to be our guest expert for a week."

I would like to recommend that you replace "for a week" with "until January 28th" (or whichever date you have agreed with Dr Hollon).

Not all of us visit this board every day; neither do all those who do visit read the announcement before scrolling down to the most recent messages (perhaps an even greater problem on Psychological Babble because the board turns over more slowly); and not all of those who saw your announcement today will still remember, early next week, exactly when they first saw it.

The weeks during which previous guests have accepted questions have led to posts like these:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8169.html
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8221.html
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8024.html

For compulsive procrastinators like myself, whom a specified deadline might encourage to delay posting their question until the final hour, this is NOT a good idea. Guest experts, like any other poster, have the right not to reply to any question and are more likely to have time to attend to the questions that reach them first; a previous guest withdrew before the end of his week because he had received an unexpectedly large number of questions. I remember with regret, while writing my eleventh-hour question for Dr Gershon, anxiously reloading the index page every couple of minutes in order to check that your announcement was still there!

I don't think I'm the only babbler who would welcome another expert on bipolar spectrum disorders. I appreciate, however, that you may feel Dr Robert Post's Grand Rounds on February 3rd come too soon after Dr Hollon's guest week.

I shall be away until Sunday and will not have access to the internet, so I'm thanking you in advance in the hope that you will adopt my suggestion :)

Best wishes,

Jonathan.
