I hear the writer saying his beliefs are based on review of another's writing. He discourages exploring within one's self the basis of an idea.

If we find our internal guidance is an unreliable basis for ideas, sometimes it is better to let others think for us. But then, if the others who think in our behalf cannot examine the basis of their ideas, we might not gain much advantage.
