There seems to be a lot of rumble about mumble here, or would you say it is mumble about rumble? While we are mumbling about rumble or rumbling about mumble, dissecting each to discover the other, I'm sitting here thinking, "wouldn't it be nice if we could pool our resources"?
Has anyone thought about developing a project as massive as an online cross-referencing system that would include all the religious texts? Is there one already that I don't know about? I consider the one I use an invaluable resourse for answering questions, but I would also like to see what other religions say about the subject. Because: I think our basic beliefs have more in common than we might realize. For instance, in Native American mythology there are many stories that tie in with modern Christianity. The Islam definitions of love and kindness are similar to the sermon on the mount in the Christian Bible.
As one response (Nikki) to the "what one God" post said, "I don't have any god.But I have some christian beliefs, though I tend to lean toward buddhism. But I'm also intrigued by other peoples gods and why they believe in them and follow their practices.
Thinking about it... when I look at mnay religions, they do seem to share the same god... So maybe there is just one god per se." Nikki
I'd like to applaud Nikki for those comments. Her thoughts were surfacing as she wrote them. "IF" we all began as children in the same Heavenly family, those kind of thoughts should surface in all of us from time to time, and if we had access to a large cross-referencing system, our thoughts could be substantiated.
For instance, look up the word, charity. The New Translation of the Bible (I believe it is called New Hope for Modern Man) has replaced the word "charity" with the word, "love". so if I looked up the word charity I would get no reference from that book, yet if I looked up the word "love" I would get millions. If you type in a phrase "love one another" with quotations it pulls up every scripture that has the words together.
This post likely doesn't belong on the Administration board, but quite frankly, I never quite frankly know where I belong.
