Mr. Spike,
I understand and agree that drug abuse is a terrible thing but what is abuse for one person is a saving grace for another. You, the HMOs, the Dalai Lama, Alan Greenspan---no one person, body, or authority knows everything about every other person which includes unique body chemistry. As I said in another post I haven't really read much of these latest fusses over "my medicine is better than your medicine."
As with anyone else on this board I merely offer my two cents.

A person with depression has not chosen to have the disease. Just as one doesn't elect to mess with heart disease. I want to surf and swim and do all the outdoor activities that I used to do before this latest bout of depression. I get out and walk, do yoga, and keep my lungs functioning as best I can yet I still have depression. Bad. I still have suicide as the top option in my brain at most times. I, as almost all others here, aggressively seek treatment to get out of this hellish existence that depression is.
Please do not assume that because a person on this board has found efficacy with nontraditional medicine (Websters: 1 a : a substance or preparation used in treating disease b : something that affects well-being) that they are somehow the evil incarnate.
If you have had experiences in your family or within your close circle of friends with drug abuse I can understand being adamantly against any possible positive use for any substance that has been so detrimental in the past to a loved one.
