big time

I really like the Peter Gabriel song "Big Time".
Gabriel is purported to be bipolar. My thought is if you listen to Big Time you might thank he is making grandeur statements that one may think
while manic. So I wonder, is Big Time about mania?

Hmmm... I see it as a satirical take on a "bigger/more is better" mentality than anyone can buy into. But I suppose if one had delusions of grandeur one would think things like that.

I wouldn't know whether Gabriel himself experienced such feelings....

I always took it as a dichotomy between his relatively obscure work vs. pop music success. But it's easy to see how that sort of thing -- making the big time -- could trigger a manic episode.

My fave depression-related song on that disc is Mercy Street. Yrying to get into the mind of the person in the song is disturbing, which given it was dedicated to Anne Sexton is understandable and, as such, not really advisable.

I've seen the video, its wierd, peter gabriel smiles with a wierd smile, but he's thinking about himself in the whole song.

I looked up peter gabriel today, he's not in "his big heavan"

He's bald now, and look old. Not saying thats anything, but he looked like a kid in 1987 when he did his "Big Time" video.
