Teeth Whitening - Success or Waste of $

Posted by Fivefires on August 29, 2007, at 23:15:14

Any1 had one of the expensive teeth whitening procedures done in a dental office which was a success? Or, does any1 know of anyone who did?

By 'a success', I mean you don't have to go back again.

(I'm having difficulty compunicating.)

I'm not asking about the type where they make a cc of your mouth and you sleep w/ that dang thing in there.

I'm looking for info on the 'supposed to be one time only, uses a machine, zaps yellow out of teeth, hurts like hell, costs like $500.00' one.

I've heard ZOOM not successful.

I had Zoom and liked it. They do a before and after color match, so you can see the difference.
The in office deal includes impressions from which
custom trays are made. You have to use them at home with a weaker solution to maintain the whiteness.

If getting rid of the yellow is what you want
my experience is Zoom was very effective. That is why I had it, and it got rid of all the yellow.
Gone are the years of smokes and coffee,

If your goal is teeth as white as you were born with, that is unlikely to happen. The Zoom brochures feature people with teeth as white as a white sheet of paper. That is not going to happen with bleach. If you want that, it really costs.
I was happy with the degree of whitening I got.

The light source is a tube, which goes in your mouth for 15 mins at a time. It is not a small tube, it is a mouth full. 3 to 4 sessions with peroxide solution reapplied in between. Premedicate as needed. Forget reading during this,
headphones and music make more sense.

Wow .. tks sam123. Hey yeah, there's no way I expect the teeth of a child, just the coffee and smoke stain off. I may go w/ Zoom. I think this office I'd spoken w/ had Zoom, had some complaints, got another brand name deal/machine, and then went back to using Zoom, as the newer one was worse.

Seems like a heck-of-a-lot-of money to spend, unless one has lots of extra dough lying around wanting to be spent!!

But then, when I smile, my teeth don't show, so it's not often my 'pearly not-whites' would be seen anyway!!

My dentist told me when I was a kid that the not-as-white teeth are stronger teeth than really white ones. Don't know if it's true.

I used Rembrandt Whitening Strips:

It made a big difference, (I'm not a smoker but I have coffee or tea in my mouth constantly).

I had tried something by Crest years ago, and it made my teeth so sensitive I had to stop. This one did not cause any problems at all. Just made my teethies look a lot whiter.

For less than $30...it was well worth it.

Since I have caps wouldn't work as they match the color to your own teeth. Phillipa

Jeez .. I just bought some strips, but not Rembrandt, probably should have.

I have like two spots, like up on top of my 2nd or 3rd from the middle top which are what really bother me.

What are caps used for Phillipa?

Maybe I just need to have something done to those two spots??

(For some incredible reason, I've never even had a cavity, so I know little re: dental stuff.)

I'd say you're very lucky and that a whitening strip will probably work. Phillipa

I wonder if I could cut it up and put little pieces over those spots. Ya' know what happened?

I was looking for the Crest whitening strips to read the box, and I found, whatayaknow, butt, Rembrandt whitening package w/ little tubes and foam-shaped mouths! Now I've got two of these to work with if I'd just stop talking and do it.

I know.
