Beautiful scenery pat, did you take that photo yourself? It looks very professional. I love the little white patch on Fayeroe's chest! What breed is s/he? Those flowers remind me of when the Californian Poppies I planted overrun the garden.

yup, i took it. i'm a photographer and that was Fayeroe's first "posing" photograph. it was taking north of Austin. i think they are called "Indian Paintbrushes"........

i do notecards from my photos. i have a whole series with another dog, Tippy.

Fayedy is half Airedale and half Boxer. she is really, really smart. i have to get up very early to get ahead of her head. she learns at an extraordinary speed. and she is an excellent guarddog for me. i live alone and she caught a guy one night who was window-peeping...:-)

The wood is part of the parkland of a castle just a mile further east so I think it probably has something to do with that. The castle was built in the 14th Century, not sure if this is older or newer? According to a map Meri-Tuuli showed me it's called 'The Folly' and according to Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folly

One of a different angle:

It feels a little bit creepy. It's partly demolished now but looks as though it was lived in until fairly recently.

Kind of looks like an old church. Wow, to be walking through the forest and see that. So cool.
Such a pretty place.

I think I must have lived in that type of building in a past life. When I see photos of them I get the most intense feeling.

Now that you mention it, I do too. Things like that fascinate me. Plus, a lot of my clan came from Scotland. I'd sure like to know the story of that building.

Think you could find out anything on that building Quintal? Curiosity is killing me.

I wonder if I could google it? Is there a town close by?

Once again, really great pictures. Thanks.

Me too. I think I could have been a damsel in distress, a Guinevere plucking restlessly at her harp waiting for her Arthur to come back from some crusade in the Holy Land. The village I live in was founded by a French knight actually and his daughter drowned in the moat of the castle so the story goes. I'm not superstitious but I wouldn't want to spend the night at that place alone, it has a creepy feel even in broad daylight.

This is the website of the castle, and 'The Folly' as the building is known is in the parkland. I suppose they would know better than anyone about its history. I can't find anything about it on Google.

There's accommodation available there if anyone wants to come and stalk me. I've always wanted a stalker - bit of glamour noir.

Here's some more photos to whet your appetite:
