Flying high now....

Posted by Phil on April 23, 2007, at 11:02:57

Saturday at 10 a.m., I'm going to get to fly one of these. With an instructor of course.

If you live in central Texas, stay the heck in your house from 10:15-11:15.

Do you really fly a plane? Love Phillipa

It's an introductory flight. For $59.00 at most flight training schools, you can go up w/ an instructor and they let you take the controls.

If you get the fever, you can continue on w/ getting your pilot's license. That's not my plan--I just want to go flying.

that's pretty cool. have you ridden in a small plane like that before? i'm excited for you. how exactly does it work? do you get to 'drive' the first time out? since they let you take the controls, do they have an extra set in the copilots seat, much like driver's ed, so they can 'throw on the breaks' if needed?

i know someone who was taking classes to get a helicopter license. he quit just a few hours short of reaching his goal. i think it had to do with finances though. he said he really enjoyed it. i hope you do too (and i'm no where near you so i'm not too concerned).

>>Not since I was about 10 years old--I went up in a Cessna(don't remember it very well). Also took a hot air balloon ride several years back. Lot's of fun!!

I think they let you sit in the pilot's seat but the pilot's right next to you if anything goes wrong. I've read where some will let you take off and fly but this is a 3 week old plane. The pilot will just let me fly once airborne I'm sure. I sure as heck don't want to land it!!

Helicopters have to be the hardest thing to learn but that gives me a new idea. Helicopter ride!

This all started when I was sent a link to airliners.net. I saw how cool all the jets and planes were. I've spent hours on that sight and I guess I got the bug.

Hope it's fun.

I love at the air show when some HUGE JET (not sure the name) flies low overhead & the very ATOMS in the air vibrate (are there atoms in the air? well the atoms in ME vibrate!).

I LOVE that - then it goes over again & then heads STRAIGHT UP into the sky until it disappears!!! Anybody ever seen this at an airshow?

I've flown *in* double seaters before. the scenery is gorgeous. I hope you've got great visibility :)

maybe some dramamine. I remember that I felt distinctly dizzy and nauseous on a few of the flights.

that might have just been my terror of something unrelated to flying or motion sicknes, however.

best,
-Ll

Like at the CNE?

Mostly molecules, which are made of atoms, but some free atoms. Very tiny pieces of matter, in any case.

Yes, I've seen both an F/A-18 Hornet and an F-15 Eagle pull this stunt. It is breath-taking. If I ever win the lottery, I'm off to Russia to rent a ride on a MiG-29. They'll pull 8 G's, or more, if you ask them to.

The loudest plane I've ever heard was an SR-71 Blackbird. Everybody cringed, when that went over.

I used to have a room-mate studying for his pilot's license. He needed the hours, so he'd take me up (in a Cessna 150) for the price of fuel. First flight up, I asked him why he thought so much of flying, and he said, "You know how much fun it is to ride a winding road in a good sports car? Well, up here, I make the road!" And with that, he kicked the tail out and dove so hard to the left that I thought the seat belt would cut me in two, while he howled with glee.

Got it, Mitch.

Well, I don't know about better. Different, and great.

Precisely the CNE!!!!!! We were over in the waterpark area.

I'd go to Russia or anywhere to experience that - but I've heard that just about everybody pukes like crazy their first time!!!!

That friend sounds pretty crazy! Fun crazy.

I like what he said about roads.

If I'm not hurling all over the cockpit, I'll ask to buzz your residence. : )
