My Husband's Ultimatum (re having kids)

Posted by Racer on February 6, 2006, at 13:45:32

As I've mentioned before, my husband and I are trying to have a child. (They think they found the problem, by the way, so I'll be having surgery soon to correct it.) The other day, my husband delivered an ultimatum: During the course of gestation, I am to listen to Grown Up Music Only. I shall be expected to listen to classical music, chamber music, Important Music. And worse yet -- NO PUNK ROCK!

I won't be able to listen to Stiff Little Fingers, or anything! Can you imagine how hard that would be for nine and a half months?

OK. I'm laughing about it, not serious about the horrors of such a thing. Mostly because he can't and won't enforce any such thing. And because I don't listen to much punk rock anymore. (Although I'm having a SLF phase lately -- gotta hear Alternative Ulster, or Wait And See, etc, a couple of times a week, at least. Wonder what that's about, huh?) But it was so funny that he would bring it up, out of the blue, that I had to share it here.

*laughing insanely*

I would have to put my foot down over that one, definately! And surely pogoing is good exercise for mummies to be *g*

But.. *splutters* How come you never told me of your prediliction for punk? There is nothing better than after a bad day at work, to come home listening to LOUD punk *g* I have a playlist just for bad days on my Ipod.. Ramones, SLF, The Clash, Stooges, Snuff, Violent Femmes... Infact, we're off to see the Violent Femmes live at the end of the month (very handy having one of the best venues in London just around the corner from the flat!)..

Who'd have thunk!!

N xx

(ps - you know how chuffed I am at the news.. I shall add something to my shrine tomorrow I think to make sure more power heads your way!)

That subject heading response was brilliant.

I can't believe you get to go see the Femmes..
This may change my feelings about you forever.

Man
It's been so long since I've truly envied anyone.

Oh I just can't believe that some people could just up and do that!
It would be awesome. I would, in a heartbeat!

Sorry for semi-hijacking your thread Racer, it brought back a lot of memories, actually the timing was funny, because just last week I started listening to all those bands again and wondering why I'd ever stopped.

Yeah, I agree with this, too. It's been way too long since I saw them open for the B-52's, I think.

Hey Racer, I still haven't found that photo of the outfit...but I will!

Maybe you could just watch golf on TV and hope to raise another Tiger Woods or Michelle Wie. (I think that's her last name.)

And here I thought I might get a few responses of people going, "huh? What's that?"

You know who came to my mind, and dang it I can't get to our turntable right now? X-Ray Spex! I've had a bit of an earworm, actually. "He's a germ free adolescent..." And then I have one of those that I think a lot of people didn't like much, but I adored: The Rezillos! *g*

Ain't it amazing, how great minds not only think alike, but are also drawn to the same art and music?

And did you like Penetration? Loved Pauline Murray's voice, and still have a Moving Targets poster up on my wall. It's framed now, though...

The Jam? (We used to screw up their song lyrics *g* "Eating waffles, eating waffles," and so on.) Wire? Specials? Undertones? The Beat? Go Gos? Siouxsie goes without saying, right? Modettes? This will be asterisked, but The Damned? They were one of my very favorite bands, and I loved the Cap. Pete Shelley and his bands? {sigh} I used to know Chris Isaak when he was still opening for other bands on Tuesday nights! lol That was a loooonnnnnngggggg time ago. He used to sing a few songs in falsetto, and in double quick time, which I wish he'd do more now. (OK, I don't actually listen to his stuff anymore, so maybe he does and I've missed it.) Yaz! Alison Moyet's voice is sublime, and I can go weeks with a bunch of her CDs on random play...

Whoops! Gotta go now, or I'll be stuck here on memory lane all night! Maybe I should type out a list of my records? And I do mean records -- on vinyl.

Best music to come out of Milwaukee. I can't be this old, they must not have carded me. Sigh. I am this old, but darn it, I got to see them before they hit the charts.

Ok... Let's skip the counter-culture, like Mozart and anyone else who went against the grain. Can't have any of that music with "Too many notes". Let's also skip some of that more modern atonal classical genre. What about music that states an unpopular political message? New-age is banned by right-wing churches, as is lots of country and rock. Can't do Celtic-- too many pagan messages.
Let's be safe.... no music. Just go out into the country and leave the windows open. Shouldn't hear anything offensive there.

Wait minute! is gestation the first part, or what comes later? I can see how punk rock might not work well for the first part.

Stupidity is bliss.
