Okay call me stupid! LOL Well I tried to highlight my hair with blond highlights(never even colored my hair before) and it turned a orange colored blond splots on my dark brown hair. Umm.. it hasn't dried yet, but I think I will be buying some all over color tomorrow morning to cover up the highlights. Oh, well, you only live once! LOL

Wait, will my hair fall out if I try to coverit up (nm)

There should be a toll-free number on the box so you can call to ask the company how to fix it.

How about if you dyed your hair black all over? That would be a totally different look AND it would cover up tonight's hair experiment, I think. I don't know. I have brown hair and I keep thinking of going black, but I have been chicken. So, perhaps I hope to live my hair fantasy through you!

Best,
EE

Your hair sounds so cool! Would you consider babble-mailing me a picture? Or posting a pic of a celebrity or model wearing a similar 'do? I'm facinated.

Best,

Yeah, doing those highlights yourself can be aggravating - using a cap helps not get splotches. For all the time you have to put in, sometimes it's worth it just to take a plunge and get it done. Hope you can fix it. I think w/darker brown, esp. with any red in it, you'd have to bleach first to pull out the color.
Good luck fixing it.

I went all black once with my brown hair and it was very striking. Also, when the black started to come out my hair was left almost bright red.

It took several years to get my hair back to its original color.

Proceed with caution!

Using a brown dye ought to be okay. You wouldn't want to put more lightener (bleach) on it, because that would damage it.

This summer I decided to go back to blonde after being a redhead for a coulple of years. It was kind of a disaster. My natural color (blonde that has gotten darker with age) had grown out a few inches on top with the red on the ends. When I bleached it, it turned the top almost white blonde, and the ends a sort of light orange color. It took forever to get it to the right color. First I tried a temporary color, which didn't work at all, then I had to use a beige blond on it to even it out, and then (after a couple of weeks had passed so as not to damage it) I was able to put the golden blonde on it which was what I wanted.

Almost as soon as I got it back to normal, I wanted it red again.

Sounds familiar. I just spent a year growing out various haircolor experiments that all started with botched highlights. Bleach is tricky, and those home kits don't really give very good instructions. If you're starting with dark brown, your hair will turn red, then orange, before it turns blond. So if you don't leave it long enough or the bleach isn't strong enough, you end up red or orange.

That's it completely accurate. That's why I have mine colored professionally. I end up spending less money this way. And I don't have to worry about botching it up. If the hairdresser does he/she is responsible and must fix it at no cost. And I have actually turned my hair green on my own which is why I'll never do it myself again. Especially since the temples and crown of my hair are greying did I just say that!!!!Fondly, Phillipa
