I took the "is it a lifetime channel thing" and "what a double standard" as sarcastic or attacking. I've been wrong before.

It was interesting for me to possibly step outside of the civility guidelines. I experienced avoidance feelings that I had to deal with.

I got fired from my job for sending a weird letter to my insurance company. I'm contemplating doing the same thing with a jury summons. This experience has forced me to examine that behavior more closely.

I appologize to the community for taking someone's words out of context. I wouldn't want that to happen to me. It seemed funny at that minute.

> I think it is because women (at least some women) feel that they have been oppressed sexually for years, and have some issues with compulsiveness with new things or ideas (as many of us do).
>
> In other words, it used to be okay for men to go to "stagg" parties and bachelor parties where women jumped out of cakes and stripped naked....but women had "showers" where they sat around and had punch and cake, discussing various recipes for meatloaf.
>
> It seems that once the flood gates were opened and the sexually connotated activities of men became more acceptable or just plain "done" by women as well.......women seemed to run with the issue and perhaps got a little out of hand.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. Its reverse objectification. Its not neccessarily 'right', but I think its understandable. I think its womens way of striking out at being objectified for so long (not the penis cake itself, but reverse objectification in general).

I'm undecided as to how I feel about this. If men can do it, why shouldn't we? It is pretty liberating to turn the tables. And this behavior does seem to be releasing us from the shackles we've been in for so long. But if they were wrong in the first place, wouldn't we be wrong too?

And believe me, there are plenty of boob cakes out there. I think there would be more vagina ones except that it would probably be alot more difficult to create.

Hey Verne,

You've always seemed to be PB's conscience on gender descrimination issues. I've always appreciated your point of view.

Maybe they should only allow *ss cakes. We all have one of them. ; )

Isn't that a beautiful painting? I had the red flower one on my office wall for a while. I think I was trying to make a feminist statement somehow in an office where every other guy had a swimsuit calendar. Maybe a Chippendale's calendar would have been a better comeback, but I don't think I could've tolerated the cheese factor.

Verne and Gabbix2. I've reread this thread and I regret what I wrote. You were right to point things out to me. I don't like feeling like I'm in the wrong, so this is the best I can do to fix my bad feelings.

I'm sorry.

Verne, I couldn't tell you were drunk you write fine. I'm sorry you were feeling bad. I wish I had caught on to this before I joked at your expense. I may deserve my first PBC or block, I'm not even sure.

I'm trying to communicate better. This mirrors my behavior IRL. I hope you will give me another chance in the future.

James,

Don't worry about it. It's already forgotten. I've done far worse at Babble and IRL. Actually, I can't remember many details about last night so it's no chore forgetting.

I cringe with embarrassment at what I do remember and wish the two crippled brain cells housing this information would find another task, like remembering my left from my right.

In real life, I'm estranged from most of my friends and family over angry phone calls, emails, or the odd obscene message I left on their answering machine. In typical borderline fashion I tend to get into trouble when I communicate so I know of what you speak.

Many have forgiven me and given me countless chances both here and IRL. I hope to treat others in the same measure.

We all need to give each other lots of slack and benefit of the doubt.

Verne

No bad feelings here James -- none!
I think we've all done it, well, almost all of us. You will find most people here to be very forgiving

I have done it so often I've even developed several names for it.

"Babble Botching"
"Post-Post regret disorder"

" Oh God.. I should not be allowed near any communication device more advanced than two cans tied with string.."

Get the picture? : )
