Which Direction Does the Head of Your Bed Face?

Posted by verne on January 12, 2006, at 17:18:20

Do you sleep with your head to the South, North, East, or West?

Do you have a reason for pointing your bed in a certain direction? Or perhaps you rotate your bed according to the seasons and constellations.

According to some cultures you should sleep east-west - has to do with the rising and setting of the sun.

Not sure whether it's science or superstition - like the notion of "Mercury in retrograde". Sure the planet appears to "change directions" but how does that affect my mood?

I'm thinking of switching from east to south.

it faces north, because it's the best way it fits in the space for the proper feng shui, so my head is in the south. It used to face west, but I don't notice any difference.

I have no idea what compass direction, but I'm weird in that the side is against the wall, and the head and foot are open. This is strictly so the bed doesn't go out into the room and block my stereo speakers from my listening chair. I must have priorities.

If you change your bed, you'll wake up with your whole world turned around. that's fun.

West because that was the way it wa when I moved in, and it wouldn't fit very well any other way. I could lay the other way but then my head would not near the wall and that would make me too unhappy to sleep.

More toward the west I think. But that's the only wall the bed will fit on cause of windows closets, bathroom door. Should we have built our house differently. Boy I'd hate to think where my head is is creating this anxiety. Fondly, Phillipa

My head is west. It's the only way our too large bed would fit in the room.

I'm trying to talk my husband into going one size smaller to a queen, and getting a bed with drawers underneath. We don't really need a king now that all we have are small dogs.

But even then, the only choices are west and north.

I think it faces West... I'm not really sure. It was here and this way when I moved in.

The direction the bed faces seems to be more an accident of architecture than a choice we make.

I just got a platform bed and the only way I can make it work in my bedroom is to face it south. I think I'm violating every principle of feng shui, vedic living, and all that is Martha.

What I'd really like to do is fill my bedroom with soundproof padding and burrow out a place to sleep in the middle.

Mmmm. That sounds lovely. The soundproofing and burrow.
