Need more, uh, romantic help..better this time :)

Posted by jay on April 11, 2005, at 21:51:04

Well, since I've lost some weight and such, I decided to redo my profile pic (that I may use and go out on some date sites;) and...well I HATE asking for peoples advice..like I know I am an ugly dork, but maybe you can just pretend...hahaa. I wonder if I shave off my goatee if it will help make my face look a bit thinner. Oh ya, and I haven't stopped my meds, I just do cardio exercizes 1/2 hour every day...gonna go to 45 mins..then to one hour...etc. (Doc OK'ed it.) My ugly mug can be found at http://ca.profiles.yahoo.com/jay_ghostrider

Your comments deeply welcomed...thanx!

(Oh ya...I have many other 'alternative' pictures..just thought I'd try this on out. Thanks again :-)

Smile big. Shaving would probably make you look younger.
Go for your target audience.
Git down with your bad self. : )

my recommendations would be as follows:

1.)shave the facial hair
2.)smile - type of smile determined by the whether your teeth are ok
3.)have someone else take the picture as it seems you are taking the pic and the angle is wrong for you.

I agree with anastasia. I was thinking the angle was from too low. You probably want a straight on gaze. I've had the wonderful advantage of watching constant slideshows of my old pics of me, my friends, and family on the computer I need to clear out and give to my mother, and there's nothing like a direct gaze for grabbing you from a photo.

Nothing Charles Mansonish or anything. Perhaps a semi-smiling direct gaze.

Another thought. Do you have any photos of you doing something you enjoy doing, or spending time with people you love? You can crop out the extraneous parts, but the expression on your face will probably be relaxed and natural. Give someone a digital camera, if you have one, and have them follow you around and take a million shots. When you see the one that makes you smile and want to get to know that guy, you know you've got a winner.

(My favorite one of my son is of him grinning through a edifice of blocks he was proud to have made. My favorite one of my husband is of him with his arms around my son smiling at the camera.)

1. You are NOT an ugly dork!!

I agree with Anastasia's and Dinah's comments about getting a more flattering angle and natural pose. Unfortunately, web cameras mounted on computers are really good at taking mug shots, but it's hard to take a picture of what you can't see.

I'd enlist some help of someone with a digital camera who can take a photo of you smiling!! and looking directly into the lens.

Jay,

I like the goatee.

I would just suggest an angle more level with your face and and to look into the camera. Do you have to use a web cam? Can't you scan a picture in somehow?

O , and smile please!

You are definitely not an ugly dork! I think you're very attractive.

I like the goatee - I like almost all beards. But some women don't. However, it's your face, so if you want to grow hair on it, that's up to you! I suspect a beard suits you better than the clean-shaven look, but I've only seen the one picture.

I'd like to echo what some of the others have said: it would be *much* better to use a photo in which you're looking directly at the camera. Also, the angle isn't ideal because it's taken from below.

Good luck in your romantic endeavours!

Dude, if you're looking down at your camera, you're looking down at your audience. It's not a flattering position to adopt.

Don't forget to smile. Or better yet, laugh. Get somebody to tickle you. Or something.

Or better yet, just take the picture of someone tickling you.

...Phil..anastasia56...Dinah..partlycloudy...MissHoneychurch..Tamar...LarryHoover..Spriggy. See...the difficult part is there are so many individual tastes. Some like goatees...some don't...maybe some like longer hair...that kinda stuff. Well, it's nothing I plan, or that can really be done, about, unless you go to cosmetic surgery for more finite things. But the general thread, about the angle and type of frame of shot, are good advise. I am going to have to wait for someone to get a digital camera pic of me or something..because all I can afford is this crummy little web cam for now.

Thank you thank you thank you....
Peace and Love,
Jay
