You see, this is just the beginning of it. I started reading the thread, oyi it is long, I'm up to Jan 27th. I've made no comments and won't until I'm up to date. I don't want to comment on something that may already be settled further down the thread.

I for one would be very sad if you left. I feel that we made a bond here and I would be losing a friend, someone who reached out to me in a very loving and kind way.

And so the exodus starts . . .

Dinah

Yes, since writing my reply to you I have read some of that very long thread and I feel I understand where most people's feelings lie.

Are the newbies allowed to post on any other forum other than the one designated to them? I have been to several psych forums and this is the *only* one that is set up this way. I see absolutely no purpose to this and if I were a newcomer then I would feel that I wasn't good enough to post with everyone else if I could only stay on that one forum. The whole thing boggles my mind and I see absolutely no good that can come out of this. What I see is a lot of hurt feelings from people who will not be included in these new small boards and a mass exodus. I for one just may follow fallen and leave. This is like separating blacks and whites all over again. Have we not learned from that to treat everyone as equals? Apparently not.... but as usual, Bob will do what Bob wants to do regardless of what anybody else has to say anyway. As a pdoc does he not understand the implications that can occur by going forth with this ridiculous idea????

AG

> I agree with you, which was what I was saying.
>
> As it stands right now, unless you're a newcomer or official greeter you can't reach out to someone on the newbie board. You'll get smacked in the face with a notice that you aren't allowed to post on that board. I don't understand the rationale behind limiting the number of potential responders to a newcomer's post, but Dr. Bob apparently thinks it's for the good of the board.

> Mind you, I think official greeters are a grand idea. I just can't see the point in not letting others respond at all.

There are egg shells all over tha place, and Dr. john showed me today that he isn't in it to help.... Dr. John totally appalled me and accussed me of nonsense on my very first day! And it was all because he found out I am a PB poster.

So sad

Sorry sweetie, didn't mean to confuse anyone, I guess I'm used to using these abbreviations as I've a number of years under my belt from a number of forums. FWIW - for what it's worth. I used another one in another post I made and I'll probably confuse anybody that sees that one too. ;) I know how overwhelming and daunting it is to read that thread that is so bloody long but I started tonight, straight from the first post. I'm now up to the end of Jan 26th. I've got a ways to go before I'm caught up and of course, I'll have to read faster than everybody else is still responding for me to make any headway. I don't intend to join in the conversation until I am up to date as I don't want to repeat something that may already have been dealt with. Give it a try girl.

I also have to agree with you on this thraed I haven't really read it but it is beginning to grab my attention and im slightly overwhelmed by it. I guess cause i have no clue whats going on LOL

They would be message boards like this and not chat rooms like Open. The idea is to for them to have a cozier feel by being smaller. They would look the same, except they might have different background colors.

I was thinking (1) there could be maybe 15-50 posters per board, but other possibilities are (2) giving each one the power to come up with its own policy regarding size or (3) just letting supply and demand determine how large they grew.

Invitations was an early idea that was dropped. People might feel left out of ones that were up and running, but they'd always be able to start new ones themselves. And the current boards would stay open. And there would still be Open, and babblemail.

I'm afraid (1) there might start to be lots of conversations between regulars and (2) people might settle in there instead of just getting oriented and moving on to the other boards.

Sure, wherever they like! But I think sometimes it's intimidating, so I thought a place just for them to get their feet wet would help them get into the swing of things.

Sorry, but please respect the views of others and be sensitive to their feelings. Some people do like it there.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Dr. Bob,

1. Are you going to do it?
2. If so, what is your timeline for getting them up and running?

Perhaps (?) if you are going to do it, the sooner the better. I hate to see the heated discussions between friends going on about it on Admin in your absence.

Thanks,
Laurie

Thanks for explaining the rationale behind the newbie board restrictions, Dr. Bob.

I agree with the settling in part. Ahem.

But I think you could trust the rest of Babble to understand the purpose of the Newbie board and to post accordingly. And you've never been shy about redirecting if they don't. In the meantime, nice posters who want to help a particular newcomers get a slap in the face. And newcomers don't get the nice posters' input.

Oh drat it. Clarification.

I meant the nice posters who can't post. They'll get lovely responses from the nice posters who are official greeters or who are themselves newbies.

I TOLD you all so. I may be completely impotent when it comes to getting through to Dr. Bob, but I am gooooood when it comes to reading him. I KNEW it was a done deal.

I knew it, I knew it. I said it, I said it. (Insert little dance here.) I am soooo not schizotypal. I'm just good at reading people.

Sorry, but I deserve a bit of validation in the face of so much other nasty stuff.

Yes, Dr. Bob. And thanks for giving me that lovely opening. Naturally I can't say what suggestions leapt instantly to mind. But I will suggest that you give babblers enough credit to drop the restrictions and let anyone post there. And that you keep the official greeters. That's a nice touch.

If you must keep the restrictions, I suggest that you humbly apologize and blame your own issues when you slam the door in people's faces.

Sigh. I hope not. I hope you can find a way to continue to try to make a difference here, even if it feels like you really can't at times.

My therapist tells me that sometimes, though for the life of me I can't remember the words.

I can't remember what it is he said. But part of it was along the lines that it was no skin of Dr. Bob's nose whether I stayed or went. So leaving wasn't much of an effective protest. That I could make more of a difference by staying and continuing to voice my beliefs.

I dunno. I never really listen to the exact words. But something seeps into my hard head.

I totally understand your point and if it were Dr Bob that I was trying to get skin off of :) I would agree but I really cannot stay for me it is the principle ...all it is for me. That is all stated on the Admin boards. :) as you know lol but I shall play and talk and say a slow goodbye to all. I am not one to say I am going and be swayed. It IS the principle of the issue for me and for OTHERS.

Here's my thought on this issue. If you don't like the idea of the new boards, just don't use them. Bob has said that the old boards will stay, so we can stick with those and it will be business as usual. Is it really necessary to leave in order to voice your opinions? Couldn't you do so by *not* using the new boards? I've become fond of so many people here and I'd hate to see any of you leave.

I personally don't like the idea for the new boards. As I understand it, I think the whole concept is pretty *junior high* in it's cliquish-ness and exclusivity. I hated junior high and I don't plan to revert to that behavior. Therefore, I don't plan to participate in the new boards. But I love the old boards and I plan to stick with what works as long as it's here.

I agree. We should all boycott the new smaller boards, not that I would get picked to go in them anyways, not even understanding how that even works.
