What do y'all think about Chamique Holdsclaw's recent announcement that she suffers from depression bad enough to make her consider retiring from basketball?

I hope she can find a treatment that is workable for her and her departure would not be necessary if it's her choice to want to remain playing. I do think there is a little headway (pardon, really no pun intended) when someone of a known status comes forward and talks about their struggles. Maybe one of these days, there will be enough impact to make a difference as to how these disorders are preceived ---- probabaly no time soon, but the thought that this is publically spoken about is a tiny step.

It's a whole lot better than it used to be, so I believe it will continue to improve. Part of the reason it's gotten better is because of celebs. I think William Styron's book, "Darkness Visible" and interviews he gave when it was published were a real watershed.

Being lost in a media blackout at times, I will have to check out that book. I do think the stigma matter is much better than previous. Our family is a bit of a generational model and I know things have improved over two generations. Hope it does continue----
