Have to talk to another person - full of dread

Posted by Snoozy on July 2, 2003, at 13:40:27

I'm the one full of dread of course! I have to call someone this afternoon that I've never spoken to before and I just hate doing this kind of thing. I've tried to keep the discussions confined to email, but I have to call :(

Just take a deep breath and say hello. If anything becomes to tense, tell them you have to go or someone stoped by your house and you will email them later and say goodbye. Don't let them say well call me back, act like you did not hear them and say goodbye. Even if it is the second sentence in the conversation, at least you called and will contact them later...

I know this is not the normal way to deal with phone calls, but when I am really depressed this is what I have to do... It is a way of showing them that they mean something, but not causeing panic attacks....

I know I will get flogged for saying the above... ohh well...

Ooooh...I HATE calling people I've never spoken to - I hate calling people I've only spoken to a couple of times. In my first job out of college, I had to make a lot of media calls (I'm in PR) and I had a terrible time making myself pick up that phone.

I still have that problem - sometimes I don't even want to answer the phone, esp. at work, because I don't know who will be on the other end and it stresses me out.

Just take a deep breath - or two or three - but don't hyperventilate :) and do the best you can. Keep it as short as possible!

Good luck!

I think I have a mild phone phobia too. But I have to make calls for work all the time. Of course, they are the tasks that I procrastinate the most on.
