If I may, I will certainly weigh in on this.

My mother is a classic bipolar. Her manic states were not the happy go lucky creative state a lot of people think mania is.

She was downright aggressive, irritable, hypersensitive AND paranoid.

Years ago, before my own condition was under control, I was in the hospital with a young woman who was manic. She was hilarious, irrepressible, and a lot of fun to be around... until... she would suddenly get very paranoid, vicious, and you could really imagine her gunning you down without a thought. It was chilling. She also had psychotic paranoid fantasies - spies following her taxi cab, etc, that left her very agitated. No, I would say that being in a full-blown manic state is not very much fun at all.

I once asked a woman who was in this state "Why are you so mean??" when she finally insulted me for the last time

I should've asked MY mother this

Then sid, you need to get some relief and fast. Can you call your therapist or psychiatrist and explain what is happening?

Remember this is a transient phase, it will not last. Focus on your breathing, be quiet and I would minimize any stimulation around you. Dim lights, something warm and decaf to drink, comfortable clothes.

My T put me on klonopin 2x a day and that grinding, agitation feeling has really diminished.

Of course, you could probably throw a brick at me and I wouldn't duck but whatever!

because of an interaction I had with someone
I just told the truth
man I am a bad person

yeah, it's ok
I can be like that
but I'll through paint at canvas instead
and imagine I am throwing it at people

there was the star trek episode once about this planet where people lived
and these people were just walking around acting so calm in an eery sort of way, and then, suddenly they would lose all freaking control and start throwing crap all over the place yelling FESTIVAL!! in this weird maniacal way
it was some real freaky stuff
I mean they were looting and pillaging and sh*t, and then the clock would hit a certain time and they'd all stop and start walking around like stepford wives or something
reminds me of my last visit to see my mom
lol...(sigh), that's not that funny

Sid,
You sound like you're feeling really lousy, but you DO deserve to feel better--- REALLY!

YEah, I get a little bitchy sometimes when I'm revved up hypomanic, whatever you wanna call it. Seldom is right-- meds can help LOTs. The thing that helped me the most was adding wellbutrin. Okay, it made me hyperhappy, especially at first! but it took away the agitated mixed state crap that I thought was a permanent condition of living.

Even in your self-deprecations I find your wit original, surprising and intelligent. People like yourself may have unreasonable expectations concerning the purity of your cognition. Bad thoughts don't make you a bad person

just a few musings...

p.s. I'm gonna put on a BIG puffy suit, like they wear in self-defense training, and then you and seldom can throw bricks at me anytime you wanna!

I take lamictal, which is a mood stabilizer and also acts as an antidepressant for many people.

I HIGHLY recommend klonopin in acute situations, or when making med changes. It has helped keep me sane on occasion...

I take 100mgs of lamictal
and .5 mgs of klonopin
I'll probably take a second klonopin tomorrow to get through the day and not say something I'll regret

I might just start blurting out arguments
with everyone who has pissed me off

Sleep is SOOO important. Quintal has often written about how his symptoms flare up without adequate sleep.

For me, exhaustion has a way of disinhibiting me too...

You know, irritability is also a major sign of depression (particularly in kids and men), so it's not restricted to the manic spectrum.

I think maybe irritability is one of the first things that can come out when the "well-being" receptors have somehow been shut off. So to speak.

It's certainly true of me, not that I have been successful in dealing with it.

Some irritability is as if there is no psychic skin and therefore everything is a little painful.

And having no psychic skin can make me feel like if only whoever it is would leave the house I would be able to think and maybe (after a decent interval) actually do something.

Maybe I feel more this way because I have just passed my daughter's new bf in the kitchen.....
'O hello'
'How are you?'
'Oh all right.'
daughter snickers.

Note to self: Do not answer the 'How are you' question.

But yesterday we were in town and drove past a previous bf whom I had trouble recognising in his car, and when I did it was too late. Before too long he had texted my daughter 'So your Dad hates me?' She suggested not giving him the death stare.

Such is social life around here. I just have the school formal opening-dance father-daughter thing to look forward to.

Reality certainly sucks.
